Still Reading

Well, I finally got around to reading "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis. Great stuff! It was funny and poignant. I am also doing a new study in Revelations. I have not tried to study or even really understand Revelations before. It has always seemed to difficult for me. But, I have found out that there is a special blessing given in the word for anyone who reads and abides by it. So, I think it is more than worth my while to jump in. In doing so, I have discovered that it is not really all that difficult either. I am going through it with the aid of a book by Tim LaHaye. The book "Revelation Unveiled" is very easy to understand. I am also reading another book entitled, "Finding the Will of God" by Bruce K. Waltke. It has shaken me a bit and it has forever changed the way I approach finding the will of God for my own life. I am so thankful that God has allowed me this time to learn and grow in his world.

Box Up Your Fears

I've been reading a new book and taking notes. The book is called Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow. I'm sure I will be re-reading it several times too. I have gained some insight into the short comings of my faith during this time. She gives a number of ref. to read that support her testimony. Philippians 4:11-13, Psalm 16:5, Psalm 139:23-24, and many more. My favorite is: I Peter 5:7, "You can throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon him, for you are his personal concern." I'm learning that the gift of Christ carrying our burdens is more than a gift to us. Our ability to let go and let God is a reflection of our true connection to him. This is our faith at work every day.
Linda tells a story of a man who walked over a cavern on a tight rope pushing a dog in a box. He completes this several times before asking the audience if they believed he could carry a man across in the same manner. Everyone in the audience agrees that he could. But, when he invites from the someone in the audience to take the dogs seat for the next trip across, no one steps forward. This is a great example of abstract faith. "I believe for you but not for me." Linda also gives an example of how she handles her fears. She writes her fears down, prays over them, turning them over to God, and then puts the box away. She may have to come back to the box several times but she is still on her journey toward becoming like Christ. She will have the complete strength of faith when she reaches her distention. But, until then, she is growing and learning to truly lean on God. Last night I made a box for my fears. I took an old heart shaped valentine box and stenciled it up. I cut up note paper and added a pen inside the box. I want to be ready to unload when I need too. God Bless

WHAT WOULD YOU DO......

Today at church the minister gave me a lot to think about. He asked the question, what would we do if we were to go down on one knew and told someone that we loved them, that we wanted to give ourselves to them, and that you wanted to spend the rest of your life loving them. And then we asked him/her to marry us. But, their response was not what we had expected. What if their reply was, "oh how wonderful. I want to be loved like that. I want your dedication to me. I love the idea of being married. Yes, I will marry you but, I don't want to be tied down to just our relationship and so I will need to have other lovers too." The minister asked us how that would make us feel. He asked if we would still be dedicated to our love or would we walk away. I don't know about you but upon close inspection of my own life I know that I have done this to Christ. John 14:15 tells us, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." John 14:21 say, "Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me." John 14:23 reads, Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him." We tell ourselves that we love him - but do we? Do we even know him? John 2:3 Says, "And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments." In light of these teachings I have to ask myself. Will I be among those who will faces our Lord on Judgement day to be told, Depart from me I never knew you? No one can serve two masters. He doesn't want a luck warm church. He wants everything and all from us. He wants to give everything and all in return.

What is Truth

What is truth? I have discovered that I'm not the first person to ask this question. I have also discovered that any number of people you ask will have any number of answers to this question. In John 18 Pilate himself asked the question of Jesus. But, I don't believe he really wanted to know the answer. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-13 states, "The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved..." The question was put to me, "Why was Jesus born?" Jesus stated the answer himself in John 18:37. He said, "... For this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth." At this point I can only conclude the truth is reality through the eyes of the only perfect man that ever walked this earth-Jesus Christ. I must assume that because Christ came to testify to the truth it must be very important to him. I recommend Focus on the Families Truth Project to everyone who is a seeker and lover of the truth.
